#271 - Jolly Santa Bow Decoration
Paper Casting Project
Give a delicious and unique gift of Santa cookies
and top it off with a matching bow!
1 big gold bow (wire-edged)
Acrylic spray varnish
Acrylic paints: red, white, gold, black, peach
*Note: Alternately, the casting for this project may be made from clay instead of paper (see Basic Clay Casting Instructions). The choice is yours.
Note: You can substitute Import design #1016 - Jolly Santa for Heirloom design #271 (pictured).
1. When paper casting is dry, use a sharp pair of scissors or Exacto™ knife to cut out around the Santa design.
2. Apply a light coat of varnish to seal the
casting from moisture (so it will not swell and lose the design when
paint is applied). Apply a light 2nd coat of varnish and let dry. Note: You may also apply varnish to the back of the casting for more permanence.
3. Apply paint to Santa, one color at a time, and let dry between colors so they won't run into each other.
Optional: Apply a light coat of spray varnish to seal in paint. Let dry. Apply a
2nd coat of varnish if desired for more sturdiness. Let dry. Note: Varnishing will give the casting a more glossy finish.
Variation: Apply varnish to just the black, red, and gold portions on Santa, and leave his beard and the fur on cap and cuffs unvarnished for an interesting effect.
7. Glue casting to bow.
