Cream:
2 cups brown sugar
1 cup shortening
4 eggs
Add:
4 cups flour
3/4 teaspoon soda
3/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Date filling:
2 cups chopped dates
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
Method
Boil ingredients for date filling until thick . Let cool. Roll dough out thin. Spread with date filling and roll like jelly roll. Wrap well and chill overnight. Slice and bake 8 to 12 minutes at 375° F.
