5 Travel Momentos Wall Hanging
Clay Casting Project


A unique and beautiful keepsake of a wonderful visit to Scandinavia.
Materials Needed:

1 Rycraft cookie stamp or craft stamp
#382 – Folk Dancers, #115 – Windmill, #273 – "UFFDA", #039 – Dala Horse, and #102 – Viking Ship
Clay* - we used Creative Paperlay® which air dries to a paintable pure white (no oven needed)
1 clay casting* - #382 – Folk Dancers, #115 – Windmill, #273 – "UFFDA", #039 – Dala Horse, and #102 – Viking Ship (see Basic Clay Casting Instructions)
1 wood plaque (from the craft store) – painted blue with a gold border (or any color you prefer)
1  2" round cookie cutter
Sandpaper or emery board (fine grit)
Acrylic spray varnish
Optional:  Acrylic primer
Acrylic paints – light brown, dark brown, black, red, dark blue, medium blue, light blue, metallic gold, white
Glue of your choice or hot glue and glue gun

*Note:  Alternately, the castings for this project may be made from paper instead of clay (see Basic Paper Casting Instructions). The choice is yours.


Instructions:

1.  Use cookie cutter to cut stamped designs out of clay. Let dry.
2. 
When the castings are dry, smooth the edges with a very light sandpaper if needed.
3.  Optional: Use primer to seal the castings before painting.
4.  Paint plaque as shown: blue for top and sides, gold for beveled edge.  Let dry thoroughly.

5.  Optional:  Apply a coat of acrylic spray varnish to the plaque and let dry.
6.  Apply paint to each casting per instructions for each separate design below (click on these links):

          #115 – Windmill
          #273 – "UFFDA"
          #039 – Dala Horse
          #102 – Viking Ship
7.  Glue finished castings to plaque as shown.
