Clay Casting Project
A unique and beautiful keepsake of a wonderful visit to Scandinavia.
1 wood plaque (from the craft store) – painted blue with a gold border (or any color you prefer)
1 2" round cookie cutter
Sandpaper or emery board (fine grit)
Acrylic spray varnish
Optional: Acrylic primer
Acrylic paints – light brown, dark brown, black, red, dark blue, medium blue, light blue, metallic gold, white
Glue of your choice or hot glue and glue gun
*Note: Alternately, the castings for this project may be made from paper instead of clay (see Basic Paper Casting Instructions).
The choice is yours.
Instructions:
1. Use cookie cutter to cut stamped designs out of clay. Let dry.
2. When the castings are dry, smooth the edges with a very light sandpaper if needed.
3. Optional: Use primer to seal the castings before painting.
4.
Paint plaque as shown: blue for top and sides, gold for beveled edge. Let dry
thoroughly.
5. Optional: Apply a coat of acrylic spray varnish to the plaque and let dry.
7. Glue finished castings to plaque as shown.
