Victorian Stamped Cookies

3/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon butter extract
2 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/8 teaspoon salt


In a large bowl, cream butter and bnrown sugar until fluffy. Add egg and extracts; beat until smooth. In a medium bowl, combine flour and salt. Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture; stir until a soft dough forms cover dough and chill 1 hour. Preheat oven to 350° F. Shape dough into 1-inch balls and place 2 inches apart on a greased baking sheet. Flatten balls with a cookie stap. Bake 9 to 11 minutes or until bottoms are lightly browned. Transfer cookies to wire rack to cool. Store in an airtight container or freeze for longer storage.
